In acknowledgement of the recent Groundhog Day, on February 1, Synergent was host to a group of 6th grade middle school students who participated in a Job Shadow Day at the Credit Union Service Center.
Staff presented their jobs in a variety of ways; from having the students take on projects, to answering a variety of questions, and giving advice on how to turn their own talents into a future career. The shadowing students weren’t in one place for long, as they heard from departments ranging from Technology Services to Corporate Marketing.
Paul Leblond, Sales Support Specialist for Synergent Technology Services, led a conversation on how technology has changed – from communicating with tin can “telephones” to how many credit unions now allow members to do all of their banking from their mobile phone.
Another highlight of the day was a visit to Synergent’s Direct Marketing Services Department, where Synergent’ team of designers showed how creativity and technology work together to help credit unions reach members. “We learned about how to make animations and it was really cool,” remarked one student when recalling the day’s events.
The visit concluded with pizza and an opportunity to discuss the information learned, as well as the many opportunities that await them. More than a fun day for both students and staff, educating young people about what credit unions are all about can play a key role in building a new generation of credit union or service bureau employees. Recruiting members and potential future employees, is important to our industry as credit unions still work hard to get the word out on credit union benefits and advantages!
