Press Operator/Mailing Technician

Job Location: Westbrook, Maine
Job Summary

This position is responsible for the operation of press equipment to produce high-quality printed products that meet or exceed the department’s standards. The incumbent configures and operates the semi-automated mailing systems, and troubleshoots jobs for potential quality control problems. The incumbent performs finishing work on an as-needed basis, including cutting, wrapping, folding, padding, drilling, and stitching.

Essential Functions
  • Configure and operate the mailing system to maximize production quality and output. (R)
  • Set up and operate the press according to the specifications on the job ticket, including mixing ink as needed. (R)
  • Preflight electronic files and operate Imposition and RIP software to configure files necessary for production in a digital environment or configure incoming design files to manufacture plates for press. Impose and operate digital production equipment to produce high-quality output based on the specifications on the job ticket. (R)
  • Provide the Team Leader – Production with a daily summary detailing inserting totals, statement problems, and statements held for inserts, and discuss potential production schedule changes. (C,I)
  • Perform periodic maintenance and cleaning to ensure maximum dependability, longevity, and quality. Maintain a log of maintenance and servicing. (C,I)
  • Act as liaison between teams to ensure optimum statement production from print production to inserting and onto mainstream. (C,I)
  • Document proper production data on each job ticket and daily activities sheet. (R)

Wash up all rollers, cylinders, bearers, and blankets daily. (R)

Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Proficiency with standard PC programs and functions.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey information effectively and efficiently.
  • High level of organizational skills necessary for prioritizing and managing varying responsibilities and workloads.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a challenging and diverse environment.
