Alex White

As the Assistant Vice President of Payments at Synergent, Alex White has been a driving force behind the company’s payment solutions for the past five years. Throughout his time at Synergent, White’s role has evolved significantly, with his leadership playing a crucial part in enhancing and expanding the payment solutions offered to credit unions. From overseeing the development of innovative payment products to ensuring seamless integration and customer satisfaction, White has been instrumental in shaping the company’s approach to payment processing, delivering value to both Synergent and its credit union partners.

“My day typically begins with reviewing key metrics and addressing any immediate operational concerns,” White shared. “I spend a good portion of my day in meetings with internal teams and external partners, focusing on ongoing projects, completing business development initiatives, and confirming our payment solutions align with market needs. I also mentor my team and resolve any client issues. My role requires balancing operational efficiency with strategic leadership, staying adaptable to industry changes, and ensuring customer satisfaction.”

White’s career path to Synergent spans over 10 years of experience in the financial services sector. He started his career at a large bank’s operations center, gaining experience in various aspects of banking before transitioning to the credit union industry. His roles as Assistant Vice President of Operations and Director of Systems Support at a credit union gave him the hands-on expertise needed to lead Synergent’s Payments team.

From Analyst to Payments Leader

“I’ve had a diverse career path that’s led me to my current role,” White explained. “My background in both banking and credit unions, along with my hands-on experience in operations and systems support, have given me a well-rounded foundation to take on the leadership role I have today. Each of these roles helped me develop a deeper understanding of payments, operations, and systems, ultimately paving the way for my move to Synergent.”

White chose to pursue a career in the payments field because he’s always been fascinated by how critical and complex payment systems are to the financial industry. From the very beginning of his career, he found himself drawn to the intersection of technology, operations, and customer experience, which is exactly what payments represents. Over the years, White has developed a deep understanding of how payments solutions drive efficiency, enhance member satisfaction, and support business growth. Since joining Synergent, White has broadened his scope significantly, moving from a specialized focus on the Jack Henry™ Symitar® core system to overseeing a broader range of payment solutions.

“When I started, I was a business analyst in Development, so my role has evolved quite a bit over time,” White said. “While I initially focused on payments within the Symitar core system, my current role has expanded my scope significantly. I now oversee a broader range of payment solutions, which includes not only the core systems but also product strategy, client relationships, and operational management. The shift from a specialized focus to a more strategic and leadership-driven role has allowed me to contribute to the overall direction of the company and work on a wider variety of projects and challenges.”

As White’s role expanded from business analyst to overseeing a broader range of payment solutions, he deepened his technical expertise and broadened his scope, preparing him to take on new responsibilities across the company.

“When the opportunity to step into the role of AVP of Payments at Synergent came up, I was excited because it allowed me to leverage both my operational background and my passion for innovative financial solutions,” White continued. “Payments is a constantly evolving space, and I thrive in environments where I can help shape the future of technology and drive impactful change. This role allows me to work across multiple facets of the organization, from strategy to implementation, and make a real difference for our clients and members. Plus, the team at Synergent is fantastic, and I really enjoy the collaborative, solution-focused culture here.”

Driving Growth Through Innovative Payment Strategies

White’s work has a direct impact on credit unions, helping them provide efficient, secure, and innovative payment solutions for their members. He ensures that credit unions can offer fast, reliable, and seamless transaction experiences by overseeing the development and implementation of payment products. This not only improves member satisfaction but also boosts the credit unions’ operational efficiency by streamlining processes and reducing costs associated with outdated or inefficient payment systems.

“Additionally, my team and I work closely with credit unions to stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring they remain competitive and compliant with regulatory changes,” White shared. “By providing solutions that improve payment processing and integration, we help credit unions increase revenue potential, minimize fraud risks, and enhance their overall financial product offerings. Ultimately, our work helps credit unions grow, serve their communities more effectively, and remain agile in an ever-changing financial landscape.

One of the most rewarding parts of White’s role is solving complex challenges and seeing the tangible impact of Synergent’s work on credit unions and their members. Payments are such a critical part of the financial experience and knowing that the solutions we create can make a real difference in how efficiently and securely credit unions operate is incredibly rewarding. White also enjoys the variety of tasks he gets to tackle—whether it’s brainstorming new product features, troubleshooting technical issues, or partnering with a team to implement a strategic plan.

“What I really love most is the collaborative environment,” White said. “Working closely with talented teams across different departments and getting to learn from each of them makes every day feel dynamic. The constant opportunity to innovate and improve payment systems keeps things fresh and exciting.”

Collaborative Success: Navigating Complexities and Building Expertise

Since joining Synergent, White has gained a deeper understanding of the unique needs and challenges that credit unions face in today’s rapidly evolving payments landscape. He has learned a lot about how important it is to align technology with the strategic goals of the business to create real value. Working at Synergent has expanded his perspective on the broader financial services ecosystem, especially in terms of regulatory changes, security concerns, and the growing importance of member experience in driving success.

“On a personal level, I’ve developed stronger leadership and problem-solving skills,” White reflected. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with a talented, cross-functional team, which has helped me sharpen my ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and drive projects forward. I’ve also become more adept at balancing the day-to-day operational needs with long-term strategic planning, which is crucial in a leadership role. Overall, the experience has enriched my career and given me the tools to continue growing both professionally and personally.”

White is particularly proud of being part of the team that worked with Synergent credit unions as they became the first to transition to in-house credit on the Symitar system. This was a major milestone, and it came with its own set of unique challenges. The team had to find creative solutions to address technical issues, ensure seamless integration, and manage the intricacies of the migration process.

“It was a collaborative effort with our credit unions,” White said. “Seeing the successful transition and how it improved their operations and member experience was incredibly rewarding. The project not only required strong technical expertise but also effective communication and problem-solving skills to overcome hurdles along the way.”

Reflecting on his time at Synergent, White considers a high point of his role to be the collaborative environment he’s been part of.

“The highlight of my career here has definitely been the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of people—both within Synergent and across the credit unions we serve,” White shared. “The collaboration and teamwork we have here is truly inspiring. I’ve learned so much from my colleagues, and it’s been incredibly fulfilling to help credit unions navigate the complexities of payments.”

Outside of work, White applies the same energy and passion to his personal life, embracing a well-rounded lifestyle that that helps him stay focused and grounded.

“I’m really into pickleball and CrossFit, which keep me energized and help me unwind after a busy day,” White said. “Hiking is another favorite of mine. I also love traveling and exploring new places, and of course, nothing beats relaxing with my family and pets Ziggy and Salem.”
