Consumers will need to access Zelle® through their credit union or other financial institution.
Zelle® is a popular peer-to-peer (P2P) payments platform that is used by over 2,200 financial institutions, and it is not going away! They have made the decision to focus exclusively on delivering Zelle® through digital banking apps and are sunsetting the standalone app on March 31, 2025.
As of January 8, consumers no longer have the option of enrolling with Zelle® independently using the standalone Zelle® app.
“Credit union members may have questions about this change,” said Rebekah Higgins, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. “If your credit union is already using Zelle®, nothing changes for members who are already using it to send and receive money through their mobile banking app. If members are using it as a standalone app, there may be some opportunities for conversations and product education to transition them to using other payment options within your digital banking offering.”
